The 6-Year Journey in Changkat

The journey in Changkat began 6 years ago when I just graduated from kindergarten.........
I was an ignorant little kid, who had no knowledge about Science, Blogging etc. As I stepped into Changkat for the very first time(orentation day), I felt very nervous. I remembered Mrs Yee bringing us into Class 1I where I met some new friends. We were chatting so animatedly as the teacher tallied us against the name list. Finally, it was time to go home. I had so much to say to my parents ! I told them about the school, and how I met some new friends. I was so excited for the starting of school. I bought a whole lot of new stationery and was so elated.

Year 1 ----- The day came. I carried my school bag and happily ran into Changkat. I remembered my parents standing at the sides of the quadrangle, looking at me. Many other parents were around. That was all that I could remember. My form teacher was Mrs Lee. I was really scared of her because of her fierce looks. I could still remember how she stared at us when we were noisy. I was made monitor of 1I soon after. At that time, a monitor was just someone who helped the teacher to carry boooks and that was just what I did all day. I still remember vividly how Mrs Lee punished me because I did not do my art homework. She also muttered something about a monitor not doing work and etc etc. Well, that was the worst day of the year. Now, as I think back, she was not that horrible... At least she made me remember that I must must must must never forget to do my homework. And that was how I developed a fear of not doing my homework.....

Year 2 ----- "Hello class !" that was how the friendly Mrs Chan greeted us. At first sight, she looked very kind and warm, you know, the type that makes you feel at home. She showered us with lots of love and taught us many songs and rhymes. Everyday, she would teach us a song and we would sing together as a class. Many a times, she would select some of us to go to other classes to sing. Her stories were also very amusing and enticing. Thinking back, I missed those old times. I had no impression about all my other teachers, sadly. After half a year, she 'fired' the monitor and replaced him with me. Carrying books, again !!! I remembered that a girl(name shall not be mentioned) pooped in her pants. She was sitting opposite me, I think. She cried and did not dare to move. Friends around her laughed and told Mrs Chan about it. Mrs Chan accompanied her to the toilet and she came back with a brand new skirt. Alas, the foul smell still lingered there and I had to pinch my nose.

Year 3 ----- We were greeted with a friendly malay teacher, Mdm Salmi. At first sight, she looked very nice and friendly. But....as time passed, she revealed her true self. She simply loved to scream. Screaming screaming screaming. She was extremely fierce and whenever she screamed, the whole class would become silent. She also had a fun side, when she was fun, she was really fun. We could play all day. When she was, she was really fun. When she was fierce, really fierce. Once, Swathi, who liked to interrupt lessons, got screamed at. Mdm Salmi screamed, " You so clever, you teach lar !" She even tore Swathi's paper. Swathi was so scared that she cried and cried. After that, someone asked Mdm Salmi a question. Surprisingly, she replied, " Ask Swathi lar ! " Amusingly, Swathi became surrounded by curious and inquisitive people. Poor Swathi...The year ended nicely and when Mdm Salmi told us she was going to be our teacher again next year, our facial expressions were all varied. Some had their mouths hanging open , some said "harrrrr", some said Yay !, some just got stoned.

Year 4 ----- The year started horribly. I could not remember whether this happened in year 3 or 4, but anyway, I got scolded by the ferocious Mdm Salmi. On the first or second day of school, Tee Zhuo lent my red pen . And we passed my pen to and fro. Mdm Salmi scolded us horribly. She was teaching about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. I could remember that vividly. Well, Mdm Salmi asked me to stand outside the class with Tee Zhuo and face the door. We were made to do our work outside the classroom. I felt very humilliated. We voted for the monitor and it turned out to be Zaki. For the first time, I did not need to carry books. Yeah ! The year was calm and not many memorable events happened. On Children's Day, Mdm Salmi gave us a very memorable gift. Her home-made chocolate chip cookies, which she claimed were as good as Famous Amos', and a CD containing a powerpoint presentation dedicated to 4B. I was very touched and played the presentation over and over again. Until now, I still keep the CD.

Year 5 ----- Our form teacher was Ms Juliana, a teacher whom I have never heard of before. I did not know her well then, but gradually got to know that she was a teacher who hardly ever screamed. She never blew her top except in extreme cases. Whenever we were noisy, she would keep quiet. Yep ! That's her way, worlds apart from my previous teacher. Our English teacher was none other than Miss Chia. Recalling that she was my Social Studies teacher in P1, I was so joyous when I saw her. "It's Miss Chia !" I recognised her when I first saw her. She was a creative and fun teacher. But she was quite fierce whenever she was angry. Felt quite lucky to have great teachers that year. Even my mother tongue teacher was good. =] =] =] I remembered the Diggers Club incident when even the principal was involved or something like that. Now, it's history already. All was calm otherwise.

Year 6 ----- The PSLE period ! The year was full of stress. Stress. Stress. Stress. Everyday, homework befalled us like boulders rolling down a mountain. We had very little time to relax, let along play, and everyday we prayed for a day without homework. That special day never came until the day before PSLE. Still, we were definitely not free. Well, the paper came and went. It ended in a mere 5 days. All that we had studied hard for paid off in those 5 days. After those important days, life in school was like a calm, super calm, river. No homework ! No teachers ! No studies ! We rarely saw our teachers during the first few days after PSLE. All day long, we played cards and relieve teachers were buzzing in and out of our class. It was as good as not attending school. Finally, we learnt about the upcoming events of the month and were pretty excited about some of them. Copper tooling, Decouparch, etc etc. All these activities were arranged just for the P6s. Well, it was really boring after PSLE. I wish that I was still in P5, where we had lots and lots of fun activities like Channel 5A and all the other games we used to play. If only we could......

The 6-Year Journey in Changkat ends like this. Beautiful memories etched in our minds. Forever etched in our minds, never to be erased. The friendship, the teacher-pupil relationships......
